Georgia Metro Dance Theatre (GMDT) was founded in 1956, which makes it the oldest non-profit arts organization headquartered in Cobb County, and is a student-based company housed in the studios of Georgia Dance Conservatory on the Marietta Square.  Formally known as the Ruth Mitchell Dance Theatre, Georgia Metro Dance Theatre’s passion for the performing arts remains the same as it strives to provide Georgia audiences with dance performances that entertain, educate and delight audiences of all ages.  Under the artistic direction of Ashleigh Whitworth, GMDT has become a name in dance synonymous with high quality dance performances where students and professionals dance together on stage, and where the arts are celebrated through a range of diverse dance programs and community involvement.
GMDT stages three major productions per year including The Nutcracker in November, a major Spring production in March, and a Fall Repertory show in September which feature GMDT’s top three levels of company dancers.  Each of these productions are a contribution to the arts in Cobb County and the Marietta area.  Each production costs between $30,000 and $50,000 to bring to the stage.  These costs include hiring professional dancers to dance principal roles, provide professional services from light and sound technical consultants, leasing the theatre, needed equipment and stage props, as well as purchase new costumes, costume repairs, alterations, care and storage.  GMDT is a non-profit organization, run almost entirely by parent volunteers, and relies solely on its parent financial support along with ticket sales and donations in order to meet the budgeting needs that are required to stage each of these high quality productions each season.  Without your support, GMDT would be unable to bring these productions to you each year.

GMDT’s Dancing with the Stars of Marietta, is our largest fundraiser of the year and the funds raised from this fundraiser will help GMDT meet budgeting needs for the upcoming season, and make it possible to stage our three high quality productions for the coming year.  Your support of GMDT will help make this fundraiser event a huge success.  Support from ticket sales and donations through voting go directly to Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre, which is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, where approximately 150 local dancers train year round in our studios located on the Historic Marietta Square.  Our  GMDT  Company  consists  of  dancers  from  area  schools  ranging  in  age  from seven through eighteen, many of whom are honor students at their respective schools. To learn more about Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre (GMDT) please visit our website at
